A bi-monthly run by Shanghai Education Evaluation Institute and superintended by Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Shanghai Journal of Educational Evaluation is the first academic periodical in China on educational evaluation as well as the first official journal published home and abroad (CN31-2070/G4 and ISSN 2095-3380) which is run by professional education evaluation institution.

      On March 31, 2012, Yan Junqi, Vice Chairman of National People's Congress and Chairman of Democratic Promotion Association, came to Shanghai Education Evaluation Institute and attended the ceremony for the initial public offering of Shanghai Journal of Educational Evaluation as well as for the opening service of the editorial office of the journal. On July 2nd of the same year, Wang Guoqing, Press Section Director of State Administration of Press and Publication, came to the institute to inspect the work, making request for the quality of the publication of the journal.

      With the purpose of promoting cultural prosperity, pursuing the truth, developing the science of evaluation, and serving the educational development, Shanghai Journal of Educational Evaluation endeavors to publish articles about theoretical researches and practical approaches in terms of educational assessment. Hot and challenging issues in the field of educational evaluation will receive special attention, comparisons will be made between China and other countries concerning systems as well as developments of educational evaluation, experience will be exchanged in terms of quality assuring mechanism in different kinds and at varies levels of education, new ideas and perspectives will be reflected in the field of educational assessment, and suggestions will be made to the government as to the ways to improve educational quality and perfect educational assessment system. In doing so the journal can better serve the national strategy of rejuvenating the country through science and education.

      Shanghai Education Evaluation Institute, the publisher of the journal, is a professional education assessment institution at provincial level. It is the first established institute of its kind in China with a wide range of business and active professional engagement. Apart from that, it is also an execute member of the council of APQN (Asia-Pacific Quality Network) and INQAAHE (The International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education) as well as the location of the secretariat of APON. Shanghai Education Evaluation Institute endeavors to guarantee the proper running of the journal in terms of funds, human and material resources.

The intended reader of the journal includes educational management personnel at different levels, teachers and graduate students doing research concerning educational evaluation, people engaged in educational assessment institution, and all the other institutions and individuals who are engaged or interested in educational assessment.
